The public comment period on CDOT's I-25 South Gap Environmental Assessment closes today, May 29.

Under this proposal, I-25 would be widened between Castle Rock and Monument. Infrastructure would be upgraded, express I-25 South toll lanes would be added going in each direction, and there would be more shoulder space added to the sides of the highway. The project is contentious, especially as infrastructure proposals in Congress have included I-25 South widening in the list of the country's priority projects. Instead of relying on Federal infrastructure dollars, the proposal being floated would recoup the project's costs by charging drivers to use the express lane. Since the project was announced in late April, the 30-day public comment period is coming to a close. The environmental impact study is one of the last hurdles in the way before the project is green-lit, meaning that this will be one of the last opportunity's for the public to voice support or opposition to the plan. If you want to weigh in on the proposal, including any environmental impacts it might have, make sure you submit your comment before the clock strikes midnight.
