Travel the cosmos and battle alongside the Guardians of the Galaxy!

Epcot has long showcased some of the world's greatest wonders and magnificent cultures, but in 2022, the theme park will expand its pavillions through time and space. During Disney's Destination D23 event, Josh D'Amara, the chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products, announced that a new Guardians of the Galaxy-themed rollercoaster will launch during the summer of 2022.

Called Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, the rollercoaster has been described by Disney as an "extraterrestrial escapade" that matches the grandiosity of the hit Marvel films.

The adventure begins on a tour of the Galaxarium, a planetarium exhibition that showcases the differences between the planet Xandar and Earth. Riders will learn all about the extraterrestrial capital of the Nova Corps until things start to go wrong. Riders will then be called upon by the Guardians of the Galaxy to travel the cosmos and save the galaxy.

The ride features the first reverse-launch on a Disney coaster and will be one of the longest enclosed coasters on planet Earth. It rotates a full 360 degrees so that fans get right in the middle of the action and includes the first full-sized version of a Xandarian ship.

Actress Glenn Close will be reprising her role as Nova Prime, the leader of Xandar and commander of the Nova Corps during the adventure. She recorded a video specifically for the ride and to show fans how excited she is to have them on board as they fight to save the galaxy.

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn was also brought back for the all-new adventure. He shot all-new scenes for the ride and told fans that the ride is not canon. It will feature an older Groot, rather than the canon Baby Groot and will be shot in an entirely different universe.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will open in the new World Discovery neighborhood of Epcot and will be the first "other-world" pavilion at the theme park. The ride won't be the first based on the Marvel movies though. Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout opened in May 2017 as a Guardians of the Galaxy-themed take on the Tower of Terror. The ride features Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Benicio del Toro as The Collector, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, and Seth Green as Howard the Duck. Riders strap in for the time of their lives as they're hurled through the floors of a 183-feet tall building all while listening to Peter Quill's jamming soundtrack.

So, are you ready to buckle in for the ride of your lives? Let us know how excited you are to travel the universe and save the galaxy with your favorite Guardians of the Galaxy!
