Game of Thrones fans, rejoice! The new spin-off, House of Dragon, will begin casting soon!

Ever since the Game of Thrones series ended last year, fans have been waiting for any news on the development of the prequel series.

Called House of the Dragon, the show will follow George R.R. Martin's novel Fire & Blood. Events in this book take place 300 years before A Song of Ice and Fire and will focus on the legendary Targaryen civil war titled "Dance of the Dragons." This war is what eventually wrecked their home and caused the Targaryens to move west, at which point they took over Westeros with their dragons. This concept mirrors European expansion, where people destroyed their home and had to migrate to the other side of the world.

After the success of HBO's hit series, the network immediately leaped on projects to adapt more of Martin's works. Several series were greenlit, including House of the Dragon. However, one of the more prominent ones, Blood Moon, was canceled. The ultimate prequel, it would have dealt with the first Long Night against the White Walkers and the Children of the Forest.

One of the most critically lauded shows in recent television history, A Game of Thrones ended last year with a dud. Despite the first seasons being considered critical masterpieces, the final one was trashed by both fans and critics, to the point a petition was made to re-do the entire season.

Hopefully House of the Dragon will not go down the same way.

So far, Entertainment Weekly says that casting is underway. Multiple episodes, including the pilot, are set to be directed by Miguel Sapochnik, who directed the acclaimed "The Battle of the Bastards" and "The Long Night."

Hi! I've lived in the NOVA region most of my life, repping our sports' teams, finding unique and cozy coffee shops to indulge in, and exploring nature hikes I've never visited. I used to live under the mountains in Roanoke, VA as well as a handful of beaches in NC, but good ol' Northern VA had always called me back! I write novels for fun (currently working on a fantasy series that won't have a terrible ending like Game of Thrones, right?), and enjoy reading and diving into new experiences that help me grow.
