Do you agree with who we think is under the mask? Spoilers ahead!
The Masked Singer kicked off Group B’s performance with a night of firsts. Throughout the jampacked one-hour episode, we saw the show’s first puppet performance and its first-ever self-elimination.
Episode 2 introduced fans to six new contestants: Crocodile, Seahorse, Whatchamacallit, Serpent, Gremlin, and the show’s first puppet, Baby Alien. Although their sultry voices and smooth dancing impressed the judges, the highlight of the night came when Gremlin simply decided to take off his own mask.
“I want to take this thing off right now,” stated the Gremlin after his performance of “Stand By Me." He told the audience that his performance was a tribute to one of his best friends, the late Willy DeVille who died of pancreatic cancer in 2009.
Host Nick Cannon urged the Gremlin to keep his mask on saying, “It’s not that part of the show yet!”. However, his attempts to keep the Gremlin’s mask on were futile. “We’ve lost control! It’s the Gremlin show!” he said.
No one could tame the Gremlin’s wild actions, and he ripped off his fuzzy head to reveal his true identity—actor and former boxer, Mickey Rourke.

“I was just in the neighborhood,” Rourke said. “I liked the show. I watched like for episodes and they asked me, ‘Would you be interested?’”
Rourke’s self-reveal was unprecedented. However, it did keep the other five competitors safe for one more week. Let’s take a look at the clues they gave to see if you can spot who’s hiding under the mask.
Crocodile
Courtesy of the Masked Singer
Song: “It’s My Life” by Bon Jovi
Clues: Crocodile said his costume was a “natural selection” because he’s happiest in water. He grew up in Hollywood surrounded by “heartache and instability." Crocodile describes himself as a “warm, sensitive creature who just wants to be loved back” and says he’s ready to make a “wicked big splash."
Throughout his clue package, fans could catch a glimpse of the following potential clues: an Italian flag, fish in a pineapple bowl, a rainbow, and a Vegas-like hotel.
Judges’ Guesses: Jon Hamm, Nick Lachey, Donnie Wahlberg
The Internet’s Guesses: Neil Patrick Harris, Chris Colfer, Elton John
My Guess: Nick Carter. The Backstreet Boy grew up in Florida, which would relate to the Crocodile's familiarity with water. Last year, Carter revealed that his dad was adopted and posted on Instagram, "The truth is that I am not a #carter. The only clue I can give you is this. I’m gonna go watch #thegodfather." The Godfather could be the link to Crocodile's Italian flag. Nick Carter was also the kid in the beginning of Edward Scissorhands that slides onto a Slip-N-Slide. In the beginning of Crocodile's clue package, it looks like he's swimming on a Slip-N-Slide as well. Carter's debut solo album was also called "Now or Never," which is referenced in the song he sang in this episode, and the Backstreet Boys have a residency at Planet Hollywood in Vegas, which could relate to Crocodile's reference to the Vegas-like hotel. Lastly, Crocodile said he grew up surrounded by "heartache." The Backstreet Boys' song "I Want It That Way" has a line that says "ain't nothin' but a heartache."
Baby Alien

Song: “Faith” by George Michaels
Clues: The first Masked Singer with a moving mouth revealed that it’s time for his rebirth because he was “stuck in second gear for a while." When he was the “cream of the crop circle," he was in theatre every week and “beamed on the Tony Awards stage, baby." However, he became “lost in space” and a second-thought, so she opened his eyes to other passions.
Throughout his clue package, fans could catch a glimpse of the following potential clues: Ferris Beuller nods, a cheese stake, horseshoe, ninja outfit on a turtle, and a broken bell balloon.
Judges’ Guesses: Freddie Prinze Jr., Ralph Macchio, David Schwimmer
The Internet’s Guesses: Jeff Dunham, Corey Feldman, Jason Segel
My Guess: Seth Green. The clues seem to point to Philadelphia—a cheese stake, referencing cheesesteaks, and a broken bell balloon that looks a lot like the Liberty Bell. Seth Green was born in Philadelphia. He was also the voice of Leonardo in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, hence the ninja outfit on the turtle balloon, and had experience with puppets in Greg the Bunny. When referencing the Tony awards stage, Baby Alien said “baby” which could be a reference to Green’s role in Austin Powers. The Spy Who Shagged Me also took place in space which could be Baby Alien’s reference to being “lost in space."
Seahorse
Courtesy of The Masked Singer
Song: “Only Girl (In the World)” by Rihanna
Clues: Seahorse made a point to say that the audience wasn’t “from these parts." She spent her life trapped by her insecurities and shyness, too scared to release the “fire burning inside." She says people call her melodramatic but at times she felt lost in the world, like she was always “swimming upstream." At the Masked Singer, she can stop playing “tug of war” with herself and can expose the “dauntless diva within."
Throughout the clue package, fans could catch a glimpse of the following potential clues: OK corral, western-theme, teapot over fire, rainbow frog, dolphins, dogs with bows, a warthog, a sign that says “Emotion Ocean." Robin Thicke also pointed out that the warthog could reference Hogwarts, from the Harry Potter series.
Judges’ Guesses: Halsey, Haley Steinfeld, BeBe Rexa
The Internet’s Guesses: Zoe Kravitz, Tori Kelly, Britney Spears
My Guess: Carly Rae Jepsen. The items in her clue package seem to point to many of Jepson’s songs. The dogs wearing bows could be a reference to her song “Tiny Little Bows," the tea cup references “Cup of Tea," and “you may call me melodramatic” could be a nod to “Call Me Maybe." The tug of war could also potentially reference her album, Tug of War, and Emotion Ocean could be about her album, Emotion. Jepsen is also from Canada, which could be why the Seahorse says “you aren’t from these parts,” and is a big supporter of the LGBTQ community, which could provide meaning for the rainbow frog.
Whatchamacallit
Courtesy of The Masked Singer
Song: “I Wish” by Skee-Lo
Clues: Whatchamacallit is a rhyming monster that is both magical and mystical. People think he’s a shy guy because he lets others absorb his spotlight. However, he can shine alone as the world is “wide open." He can “dance with the stars," “surf candy bars," “buzz with the bees," and “swing from the keys."
Throughout his clue package, fans could catch a glimpse of the following potential clues: trees that look like they’re from The Lorax, orange jello, a black panther, keys, and a cuckoo clock that includes khakis, a record player, shrimp, a triangle, and Sarah Palin’s tie-dye bear costume from the last season of Masked Singer.
Judges’ Guesses: Swizz Beatz, Damian Lillard, Tyler the Creator
The Internet’s Guesses: EJ Johnson, Lamar Odom, Red Foo
My Guess: Lamar Odom. Whatchamacallit’s reference to being away from the spotlight could reference Kobe. Odom was also on Dancing With the Stars and he’s known to be obsessed with sweets, hence Whatchamacallit’s reference to dancing with the stars and surfing candy bars. The triangle on Whatchamacallit’s cuckoo clock could also reference the Lakers' triangle offense, which included Odom.
Serpent
Courtesy of The Masked Singer
Song: “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” by The Proclaimers
Clues: Serpent said it took a “shimmying of miraculous events” to get to the Masked Singer, starting when he was young. He was mischievous and devious and “slithering furiously down a path towards destruction.” However, his dad, Serpent Sr., saved him by getting him a “one-way ticket away from the wrong crowd” and on a path towards success. He now aspires to new heights and no longer wants to cause pain, but to heal it.
Throughout his clue package, fans could catch a glimpse of the following potential clues: a map of the Caribbean, a book called How to Dig Yourself Out of Debt, a Serpent Manual, musicology, medicine, and baseball caps.
Judges’ Guesses: John Legend, Daveed Diggs, Leslie Odom Jr.
The Internet’s Guesses: Leslie Odom Jr., Brian McKnight, Jamie Foxx
My Guess: Brian McKnight. McKnight has many connections to the Caribbean, including performances in Jamaica and at the Caribbean Fashion Week. In 2014, he sued his former accountant over tax debt which could reference the How to Dig Yourself Out of Debt book. McKnight also supports many charities such as Gateway for Cancer Research, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, and Shriners Hospitals for Children which could be the reason why Serpent has medical references in his clue package. He also founded the McKnight 360 Foundation to help raise awareness about the lack of funding for musical programs in schools. He believes that music has the power to heal, much like how the Serpent wanted to heal pain.
