Make a fashion statement with your colorful, locally made mask!
Going out in public during the coronavirus can be daunting, dangerous, and, at times, difficult to maintain your social distancing. But ... if you're in the D.C. area looking for some style or color, check out this retail shop!
Since the CDC states that wearing a face mask can reduce the spread of the coronavirus, everyone has been scrambling to find (or make) an acceptable face covering.
But if you're in the D.C. area, Libby Diament has you covered! She has transformed her bedroom into a "shipping facility" for puzzles, masks, and care packages during this pandemic.
“Every day I have close to 60 to 100 orders that are pending,” Diament said, according to DCist. “And I’ll get to maybe 40 or 50 a day. Some days, we’ll send out maybe like 80 packages. It’s pretty comical.”

The owner and founder of Diament Jewelry at D.C.'s The Wharf, she has decided to make face masks that are washable, custom-fit, and made of 100-percent cotton, claiming it's all about the quality. Her good friend sews them using a variety of patterns, with each one taking about 30 minutes to make. On the first day they sold $800 worth of masks.

Diament gives small business owners hope, in that perhaps they can still thrive during this international pandemic. The future is unknown, after all.
“It’s really challenging as a small business because it looks like ‘wow, they’re making money hand over fist,’ but the reality is you’re paying taxes, payroll, so many different expenses,” explained Diament. “We still need the help, even though the orders are coming.”
Diament Jewelry is one of many small businesses trying to stay afloat during this difficult time. Others are also creating homemade masks for the public, as it seems to be one of the most in-demand items.
