"Take It to the Track" event aims to offer drivers a controlled drag-racing environment.
Through a partnership with Bandimere Speedway, Colorado State Patrol has created a "responsible speed" program to offer drivers a more positive alternative to illegal street racing—something that has become more prevalent, as of late.
Our Community Now had the chance to sit down with John Bandimere III, aka Sporty, to learn more about the event, which is held every Wednesday at Bandimere Speedway.
"Our relationship started a little over 10 years ago with the Colorado State Patrol ... With technology, cars we drive every day have gotten faster and faster, so [street racing] really becomes more of an issue. How do you get them from the street to here? How do we educate? How do we give them a fun place without putting the finger on them and telling them 'don't do this, don't do that'?"
Take It to the Track gives drivers "the chance to play in an environment where they're not gonna get in trouble, they're not gonna hurt anybody," he added.
You'll see cars of all types hit the track on Wednesday nights, and when we say cars of all types, we mean it! From "mom mobiles" to the OCN Street Machine, and everything else in between, there's a wide variety of cars to check out as they race down the quarter-mile drag strip.
If you'd like to test your speed and race the track, it's $40 for unlimited runs. However, if spectating is more your speed, $17 for adults and kids (12 and under) are free.
