Originally set for April 11, the stay-at-home order for the city and county of Denver will now be extended until the end of the month.

Last week, Mayor Michael Hancock had announced a plan to extend the stay-at-home order for Denver, however, no official order was made at the time.

As of Monday, April 6, the mayor officially lengthened the stay-at-home order for the city and county of Denver until April 30. Denver's order was previously set to end April 11.

"I am very proud and thankful for all the Denver residents who are staying at home and practicing physical distancing," said Hancock in a statement on Monday. "I know this hasn’t been easy for many, but given the current data and advice from experts about the spread of COVID-19 in our community and across the country, these are the actions that are going to get us on the other side of this curve and protect the health of as many people as possible."

Additional "outreach and enforcement" measures will be taken to ensure that the stay-at-home order is being abided by, said Hancock. Mass gatherings will also be banned through April 30.

Gov. Jared Polis has also extended Colorado's stay-at-home order to April 26.

"We are beginning to see the impact of the actions we have taken so far, but I can’t stress enough the importance of staying home during these next few weeks," said Governor Jared Polis in the announcement on Monday. "We have to keep this up for a little while longer in order to return to a level of normalcy in our economy and our society. Right now we need to dig deep into our souls to muster the resolve, the courage, the fortitude to carry on and do our patriotic duty as generations have done before."
