The ice cream is made with Kraft’s famous cheese sauce mix.
Kraft Macaroni & Cheese brought something special to the freezer for National Macaroni and Cheese Day, July 14. The popular pantry product partnered with gourmet ice cream company Van Leeuwen to create a mac and cheese flavored ice cream. Pints of the limited-edition ice cream will be available online and at select Van Leeuwen stores. Shortly after the launch on Wednesday, July 14, people anxious to get their hands on a pint were met with error messages due to all the traffic.
National Macaroni and Cheese Day is in the middle of July, so a warm bowl of mac and cheese isn’t exactly the most appealing summertime snack, so the people at Kraft found a worthy partner to create an ice cream version.
“We know that there is nothing more refreshing on a hot summer day than ice cream. That is why we wanted to combine two of the most iconic comfort foods to create an ice cream with the unforgettable flavor of Kraft Macaroni & Cheese we all grew up with,” said Emily Violett, Sr. Associate Brand Manager for Kraft Macaroni & Cheese.

Van Leeuwen is known for its rich dairy and non-dairy ice cream made with limited ingredients. The Kraft Macaroni & Cheese ice cream is made with milk, cream sugar, egg yolks, and that famous Kraft cheese sauce mix. Kraft removed all artificial colors and flavors from its macaroni and cheese formula in 2016.
If you’re lucky enough to live in New York City, Los Angeles, or Houston, you can pick up a pint at a Van Leeuwen store for $12. The limited-edition ice cream is also available online at Vanleeuwenicecream.com. Shipping will cost you anywhere from $15 to $35 depending on where you live and product minimums may apply.
