The creamery opened at the Ice House in Old Town Alexandria!

A Virginia ice cream truck that's made the rounds through the DMV has finally settled down permanently. Goodies Frozen Custard & Treats, a retro creamery channeling the nostalgia of 1950s America, opened at the historic Ice House building in Alexandria over Memorial Day weekend. Despite the stormy weather that gripped the area Saturday afternoon, turnout was more than enthusiastic as people flocked to their "legendary" Wisconsin-style custard.

Owner Brandon Byrd founded the business in 2012, operating out of an old-school truck that was dubbed the "Vintage Mobile Eatery." The truck shows up at select locales serving up sweet treats reminiscent of soda fountains and rock n' roll. Customers can indulge their sweet tooth with doughnut ice cream sandwiches drizzled in homemade caramel, banana pudding, and rum cake. Their most famous offering is the custard, which is churned fresh in DC and uses locally sourced ingredients.

"We take you to a simpler place and time where passion, integrity, quality and customer service were more than mere words," their website states. "Allow 'Goodies' to take you down memory lane, indulging you with a social experience, while delighting your taste buds with our legendary frozen custard and treats."

It's appropriate that the ice cream parlor would set up shop at the Ice House, both for its namesake and the history behind it. Originally operated under Mutual Ice Co. in the 1900s, the historic building was used to manufacture ice before modern freezers and refrigeration. The 300 square-foot property had remained empty for 20 years up until Byrd bought the property back in 2019. It seems like fate!

We know we're itching to get our hands on some goodies from Goodies, and we think they'll make a fine addition to Old Town. For more information on their menu and hours, you can follow them on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Bring on the brain freeze!

Have you indulged in a sweet treat from Goodies before? What did you think? Let us know in the comments.
