Cut into Peacock’s terms of service and break us off a piece of that delicious cake!

Sometime when you don’t read the fine print, you end up signing your life away. However, if you didn’t read the terms and conditions of Peacock’s service agreement, you might’ve lost something worse: a secret cake recipe.

Peacock, NBC Universal’s streaming service, launched on July 15 and provides free access to TV shows, movies, orignal series, live sports, and news. If you read through the contract, however, you’ll find that NBCUniversal didn’t only dish out some of your favorite content, it also baked a secret recipe into the terms and conditions.

The super-secret recipe isn’t hard to find at all. It’s located about halfway through the Terms of Use document, in the ninth section titled “Third-Party Authentication; Third Party Services.” Scroll through the legal talk, and you’ll find a bolded sentence that reads, “At Peacock, we don’t make promises we can’t keep. So, please see below for this very delicious, Peacock-approved, just-like-Grandma-used-to-make-chocolate cake recipe.”

Peacock gives you all the ingredients you need to make a deliciously-perfect chocolate cake. In order to start, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup of butter
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 squares unsweetened baking chocolate
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/3 cup flour
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda

Once you’ve gathered these, easy-to-find ingredients, you’ll just have to follow Peacock’s recipe:

  • Preheat your oven to 325 degrees
  • Grease and flour cake pan
  • Cream butter, add sugar and egg, and mix thoroughly
  • Pour boiling water over cut up chocolate. Once melted, drain excess water into a cup to be added later alternately with flour.
  • Add melted chocolate and vanilla to the butter, sugar, and egg mixture. Then, mix together dry ingredients. Fold in wet ingredients and left-over chocolate water into the dry mixture.
  • Batter will seem thin, but do not add flour.
  • Pour into greased and floured pan.
  • Bake 30 – 40 minutes

At the end of the recipe, Peacock says,

“Enjoy! While we wish you could share a slice with us, feel free to share this recipe (tagging @peacocktv , of course). And now, back to your regularly-scheduled legal document.”

Many bakers have already made Peacock’s chocolate cake and have declared it to be absolutely delicious.

Food and lifestyle expert Alejandra Ramos baked the cake and posted photos of it on her Instagram account, @alwaysalejandra. She called it, “a lovely simple chocolatey snacking cake.”

Andrew James Myers, a reporter at TV Guide also took a stab at the cake, but added his own twist to it. He says the cake is “legitimately delicious.” He does tell readers though that the instructions are occasionally hard to follow and therefore, you’ll have to Google any techniques you aren’t sure about. Be sure to mix all of the chunks and let the cake cook before serving.

So, cut into Peacock’s terms of service and break us off a piece of that delicious cake! Let us know how it tastes in the comments!
