Give this packing list a look before shipping your youngster off to camp.

Going to a Camp Anawanna-style camp versus an extreme-sports camp are two completely different balls of wax. One triggers images of fireside stories and bunk pranks ...

... while the other revolves around adrenaline and safety gear.

For kids who opted into extreme sports camp, there are a few things worth bringing along (aside from personal hygiene necessities) that'll optimize their experience and keep them safe as they learn new skills and tricks. Depending on the type of program they've selected—be it cheer, BMX, skateboarding, snowsports, parkour, or other extreme sport—the packing list can vary. Also, in the time of COVID-19, it's important to defer to the camp's recommendations for any face masks, hand sanitizers, or personal care items that they'll need to bring.

Below are some of the essentials (aside from necessary sports equipment) that boys and girls shouldn't leave home without:

  • Helmet (be advised, some programs require a full-face helmet)
  • Knee and elbow pads
  • Several packages of hair ties
  • Wrist guards
  • Water bottle
  • Sunscreen
  • Chapstick
  • Sun protective (UPF) clothing
  • Gym or cheer shoes
  • Shin guards
  • Sports bras
