SCOTTSDALE, AZ (AZFamily) —One person is in custody after a shooting at an emergency room in north Scottsdale on Sunday afternoon.

Scottsdale police say they are currently investigating a shooting at the HonorHealth Scottsdale Shea Medical Center near Shea Boulevard and Loop 101.

Police say a member of the hospital security team was shot and is expected to survive.

When officers arrived, the suspect, an adult man, was being detained by security and staff. Police then took the man into custody.

The suspect was reportedly a patient who was brought in by family members for various medical concerns, said Aaron Bolin, PIO for Scottsdale PD.

Police say this is an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the surrounding community.

The hospital is safe and the staff are accepting patients in need of care.

“I heard a gunshot and security running towards it,” a witness who was inside the hospital at the time of the shooting said. “That’s when I started barricading the room that the patients and I were in.”
