Celebrate International Coffee Day on October 1 by supporting your local coffee shops!

Did you know 62 percent of Americans drink coffee every day? (America seriously runs on coffee!) And, while we love a Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte as much as the next guy or gal, we're encouraging local DMV residents to consider supporting a local coffee shop for International Coffee Day on October 1. We've compiled our top picks of D.C. metro-area coffee shops brewing up seasonal fall lattes:

1. Caffè Amouri: The Pumpkin Pie Latte | Vienna, VA

Caffè Amouri is an independently owned coffee shop that opened in 2010 with a focus on "quality, community, and sustainability." This fall, they've added a delicious Pumpkin Pie Latte to the menu made with espresso, steamed milk, and microfoam with Torani Pumpkin Pie sauce. Milk options include skim, 2%, breve (fancy word for half-and-half), almond, oat, and soy. Be sure to order ahead to skip the line!

2. Commonwealth Joe: The Cozy Tiramisu | Arlington, VA

Commonwealth Joe Coffee Roasters was orginally started by a group of University of Virginia students. Early in the company's formation, Jeremy Martin and Chase Damiano invested in Commonwealth Joe and grew the business, eventually earning them spots on Forbes' 30 Under 30 list in 2018. Commonwealth Joe's seasonal menu includes The Cozy Tiramisu latte. Milk choices include skim, 2%, whole, almond, oat, coconut, and half-and-half.

"Imagine yourself in Italy on riviera while the leaves are falling... Cozy up with delicious Tiramisù latte for the fall season. This rich and creamy, coffee-flavoured Italian dessert will bring you a pleasant mood & relaxed state of mind." —Commonwealth Joe

3. A Baked Joint: Pumpkin Spiced Milk | Washington, D.C.

A Baked Joint is the sister store to cupcake and bakery company, Baked & Wired. This year, A Baked Joint brought back their Pumpkin Spiced Milk by popular demand! It's house-made with pumpkin puree, pumpkin seeds, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, allspice, and brown sugar. Make sure to add a couple of shots of espresso to create an excellent Pumpkin Spiced Latte.

Well, we hope we've convinced you to try a local seasonal brew in celebration of International Coffee Day on October 1, and (dare I say) maybe you'll like it even more than Starbucks PSL! What's your favorite fall coffee beverage? Is there another local coffee shop in your area offering seasonal drinks? Let us know in the comments below!
