Numerous fights and at least three stabbings led to more than 40 arrests on a popular Jersey Shore boardwalk over the weekend, officials said.

Authorities attempted to limit the violence on the Seaside Heights boardwalk over the holiday weekend by imposing a 10 p.m. curfew on unaccompanied minors, but the brawls continued anyway, WABC reported.

One stabbing occurred Friday night, one on Saturday and a third on Sunday night, according to Shore News Network. All three incidents were not life-threatening. On both Saturday and Sunday nights, police responded by shutting down the entire boardwalk.

Various incidents on the boardwalk, which sits about 60 miles south of Central Park, led to more than 40 arrests over the three-day weekend, according to state assemblyman Paul Kanitra, a Republican whose district includes Seaside Heights.

Seaside Heights police are “cracking down,” Kanitra wrote in a Facebook post. “If you go there with bad intentions, you will likely leave in handcuffs.”

The busiest night was Saturday, which saw several large fights, one stabbing, the assault of a police officer and the discovery of a gun on the boardwalk, Shore News Network reported. Only a couple of the dozens of suspects have been publicly identified.

The Jersey Shore was also plagued by violence over Memorial Day weekend last year. A 15-year-old boy was stabbed in Ocean City, and more than 90 people were detained throughout the weekend. About a week later, a juvenile suspect was arrested in connection with the stabbing.
