LAFAYETTE, La. (NEWS 15) — Lafayette police arrested five people after finding guns and drugs near the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Officers responded to a report of suspicious activity on the 100 block of Lamar Street on Monday, March 24. Upon arrival, officers discovered firearms and marijuana. Layton Smith, 19, of Alexandria; Mikel Ferrell, 18, of Alexandria; Kameron Stewart, 19, of Alexandria; Kaleab Stewart, 18, of Alexandria; and Reginald Price, 20, of Prairieville, were arrested. Smith was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana. Ferrell was charged with possession of marijuana, illegal possession of a firearm with a controlled dangerous substance, and possession of a firearm in a firearm-free zone. Kameron Stewart was charged with simple possession of marijuana, illegal possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of a firearm in a firearm-free zone. Police noted the gun was a 9mm Glock pistol reported stolen by the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office. Kaleab Stewart was charged with possession of a firearm in a firearm-free zone. Price was arrested on an active warrant by the 15th Judicial District Court. Police recovered 46.3 grams of marijuana, five THC cartridges, a .40-caliber Glock 23 pistol, a 9mm Glock 45 pistol (reported stolen), and a 9mm Glock 19 pistol. The investigation is ongoing.
