These extreme sports films add a little adrenaline to movie night.

After butchering the worst extreme sports movies, I felt compelled to dig for films in this genre that didn't make me want to roundhouse kick a TV set. For those who need a good movie to watch that showcases hokey-free storylines and authentic athleticism, give this watchlist a try.

The Crash Reel (2013)

This documentary invites you into snowboarder Kevin Pearce's life as he undergoes rehab for a traumatic brain injury that occurred while training for the 2010 Winter Olympics. His desire to get well again and get back into the sport he loves is both heartbreaking and inspiring.

The Gabby Douglas Story (2014)

Gabby's storied record-breaking gymnastics career proves that no matter how difficult your circumstances can seem, you are more powerful than you think.

Stick It (2006)

Jeff Bridges as a gymnastics coach. 'Nuff said.

Eddie the Eagle (2015)

Michael Edwards overcomes the odds to become the first competitor to represent Great Britain in Olympic ski jumping since 1928 in the 1988 Winter Olympics. If you're in the mood for a true underdog story, this is one you need to watch.

Lords of Dogtown (2005)

Those who engage in competitive skateboarding owe a lot to the young men on the Zephyr Competition Team—also known as the Z-Boys. What began in Venice Beach, California, in the mid-1970s evolved into the gravity-defying sport it is now, all thanks to a group of teenage boys who turned empty swimming pools into their own personal skateparks.

Laura Cromwell
Just a word-lovin' southern gal who wandered into the great state of Colorado (don't worry, she knows how to drive in the snow). Loves all things outdoors, satire, dessert, and any excuse to dress up. Does crossword puzzles in ink because she walks on the wild side.
