Tired of cooking meals made from your COVID pantry stash? Order takeout for dinner!
Before the pandemic, dining at a Michelin-starred restaurant in Washington, D.C., was an entire ordeal. You or one of your friends needed to have a Type-A personality to coordinate a date and time several weeks out that worked for your friend group. You might have even needed to put down a credit card to hold the reservation to pay for any no-show fees. During the early part of the COVID-19 pandemic, many of these restaurants temporarily closed, but now you can enjoy fine dining at home by ordering takeout from these five Michelin-starred restaurants in Washington, D.C.
1. Adams Morgan: Tail Up Goat

Tail Up Goat was founded in February 2016 by several Adams Morgan residents. The name references Saint John, U.S. Virgin Islands, where numerous goats and sheep are known to be freely roaming around the island. A quick way to differentiate between the two is that goats have their tails up and sheep have their tails down. This cleverly named restaurant maintained its one Michelin-star status in this year’s Michelin guide. Tail Up Goat now offers online ordering for takeout Wednesday through Saturday from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET. The menu changes weekly, ranging from their legendary lamb ribs to their delicious pita wraps.
2. Brentwood/Ivy City: Gravitas

Gravitas currently maintains its one Michelin-star status serving up luxurious meals that use sustainable ingredients that are locally sourced. You can enjoy a fabulous four-course dinner for takeout Wednesday through Sunday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET. Make sure to check out the daily menu for the most up-to-date course selection.

Rose’s Luxury is a small, award-winning restaurant serving up big flavors. Before COVID-19, this one Michelin-starred restaurant did not take reservations and often had long lines daily. Even President Barak Obama chose to pay them a visit and celebrate his 54th birthday here. Now, you don’t have to wait in long lines to check out their famous lychee salad. Rose’s Luxury offers a four-course dinner for takeout through their online ordering system Tuesday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. ET. They post their “Stay Awesome Takeaway Menu” every Monday at 11 a.m. ET.
4. Cardozo/Columbia Heights: Maydan

“Maydān” in Farsi means a village or town square, and this Columbia Heights Michelin-starred restaurant gives that exact feeling when walking into their space. Maydān's founder, Rose Previte, misses the times when her restaurant was vibrant, high-energy, and resembled that of a town square. Today, Maydān serves as a commissary for Jose Andres’ World Central Kitchen, making food for first responders and frontline workers during the pandemic. Maydān is also offering their signature plates for takeout and delivery Wednesday through Sunday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET. The restaurant is known for its bread, which is made-to-order in clay ovens. Enjoy a pre-fixed “Twale” meal to-go which is meant to be enjoyed family-style. Be sure to pair these delicious takeout meals with a drink or dessert!
5. Logan Circle/Dupont Circle: Sushi Taro

At first glance, Sushi Taro might seem to be in an unassuming spot next to a pharmacy, but don’t snooze on this location if you’re a real sushi lover! These sushi chefs earned Sushi Taro a Michelin star serving up nigiri, rolls, bento boxes, several sushi entrees, katsu, udon noodles, tempura ... and the list goes on and on. (Are you drooling, yet?) Sushi Taro has several takeout options available Tuesday through Friday, from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. ET, Saturdays, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. ET, and Sundays, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET.
