Severe storms possible Monday afternoon and evening, Rusty says
Monday will start cloudy with some areas of drizzle before possibilities of
severe storms in the Omaha metro later in the day. In the afternoon, we will heat up into the 80s with warm, humid, and windy conditions, giving us the energy we need to potentially fire off storms, according to Senior Chief Meteorologist Rusty Lord. “Large hail is likely the greatest threat with
2-3″ hail possible. Any storm will be able to rotate and produce a tornado too. The greatest threat for those is on the Iowa side...“” Rusty says. Rusty says the main window for greatest storm potential in the metro is roughly 3-7pm Monday.
Body found in Missouri River identified as missing girl
The family of one of the girls that went missing in the Missouri River confirmed the
body found Saturday is
18-year-old Lah K Tray Moo . Two others -- 18-year-old Laiana Green and 11-year-old Eh Cress Moo -- have
yet to be found . About two weeks ago,
four girls were fishing when a witness says they saw them struggling to get out of the water. Only
one got out . From NP Dodge Park to Plattsmouth, five agencies are on the river to find the other two. Douglas County Sheriff Aaron Hanson says even though one body was found near where the girls were last seen, each person could’ve went a different path downstream.
Case for Eswin Mejia in 2016 Omaha crash heading to district court
The man charged in connection to a 2016 crash in Omaha that killed 21-year-old
Sarah Root won’t be back in court Tuesday as scheduled. Eswin Mejia, 28, an illegal immigrant, was due in court Tuesday, but his public defender
waived the hearing . The case will now head to district court. In March, Mejia was formally charged in Douglas County with one count of
motor vehicle homicide-DUI and one count of
failure to appear in court in March. He currently remains in the Douglas County Jail on a $100 million bond.
Early voting begins Monday in Omaha city election
On Monday, early voting ballots are starting to be mailed out for next month’s
Omaha city election. Also Monday, it is the first day to vote early in person at the Douglas County Election Commission Office at
12220 W Center Rd. If you have not yet registered to vote, you can still
register in person at the DCEC office until 6 p.m. Friday. Officials say all registered voters who live in the City of Omaha boundaries are eligible to vote. The City of Omaha’s General Election is on May 13. With Nebraska’s
Voter ID law , one must provide a valid photo ID before voting.
NOAA Weather Radio outage starting Monday

NOAA Weather Radio transmitters operated by the National Weather Service will be off the air from Monday to Wednesday. According to officials, the outage is due to a
required, scheduled computer update . Still, watch and warning announcements will not be affected, and Omaha’s radar will remain in operation. As a reminder, you can get watches and warnings sent straight to your phone via the
First Alert 6 Weather App. The NWS will once again translate weather alerts for different languages
starting Monday . Translations were
paused on April 7 when a contract with an AI translation provider lapsed.
Report released Monday shows weekly gas prices in Omaha metro
Average gas prices in Omaha have risen 5.2 cents per gallon in the last week, according to the latest
GasBuddy price report . As of Monday, the report found that gas is now averaging $2.98 a gallon. “Prices in Omaha are 3.9 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 37.1 cents per gallon lower than a year ago,” GasBuddy says. On the national scale, the average price of gas did not change in the last week, with an average of $3.10 a gallon, the report states. GasBuddy says they regularly
survey 300 stations in the metro for the latest information.
