PEORIA, Ariz. — A Valley woman and her boyfriend were both injured in a head-on crash involving a drunk driver on Mother's Day in Peoria.

Two weeks later, after being placed into a medically induced coma, the woman, who is a mother to a 3-year-old girl, has died, according to the Peoria Police Department.

Abrielle Lopez and her boyfriend, Brian Salinas, were hit by the suspected drunk driver near the intersection of 107th and Northern avenues in Peoria on May 11.

Salinas told 12News that he was hospitalized due to a litany of injuries, including a broken knee, broken femur, broken ankle, torn ligaments in his left knee, broken ribs, a punctured lung and more.

Lopez was also hospitalized and was put into a coma on the night of the crash. She never woke up.

"We can confirm that the female involved in the recent collision has sadly passed away," Peoria police told 12News on Tuesday. "Our department was notified by a family member that she was taken off life support on Sunday."

Lopez's daughter was not in the car at the time of the crash.

No one has been charged in this case yet. A man was arrested for DUI at the time of the crash, but charges have not been filed as police are waiting for the results of lab tests. Peoria police also said the suspected drunk driver was driving on a canceled license when the crash happened.

A GoFundMe has been opened to help Salinas, Lopez and their family. Click here to donate.
