AURORA | An unidentified 17-year-old boy was critically injured Friday afternoon in a shooting in a field in far southeast Aurora, police said.

Police were called to respond to the shooting in a field near East Jewell Avenue at Hayesmount Road, near Watkins, at about 2 p.m.

“A 17-year-old male has been taken to the hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries,” Aurora police said in a statement. “There is no suspect information at this time and no arrests have been made.”

Police said only that preliminary evidence indicates there is no danger to the public.
