With all this snow, you better believe that CDOT is always watching. They work around the clock to monitor our roads!

Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), the government-run department that alerts us about road conditions, has about 400 cameras keeping an eye on our journeys across the state. The weekend storm caused lots of headaches due to icy and snow-packed road conditions, and CDOT even closed roads and recommended late starts for multiple schools. Personally, I don't like driving in the snow. I mean, who does? I've lived in Colorado for almost 20 years and still find it challenging to navigate the snow-covered roads. We lean on CDOT to educate us before we even leave the house and provide snow plows to make sure we get safely on our way! If driving through the snow is a constant challenge, like it is for me, here are some tips to make sure you safely reach your destination!
  • Lay off the gas pedal. Accelerate slowly so you can gain traction.
  • Drive slowly, which will save you grief in the long run.
  • Increase your following distance to 8-10 seconds.
  • Don't stop once you start going up a hill. You need to maintain momentum so you don't get stuck.
  • Stay home (which is what I like to do on snowy days, whenever possible!).
