Autumn in Focus
The leaves in Colorado are starting to change! I cherish leaf-peeping adventures, soaking in the stunning hues—mainly vibrant yellows—that adorn the mountains. I also love capturing photos and posting them on my Instagram. What can I say, we live in a Insta-obsessed world. But we won't get into that right now. While there are so many unique spots to spot fall leaves, I will name a few spots perfect for capturing your next IG shots (and enjoying them, of course).
The Million Dollar Highway
If you haven't yet driven along this iconic road in the fall, or ever, you need to know. The Million Dollar Highway is nestled in the absolutely incredible San Juan Mountains. You will see mountain, valley, and gorge views, along with fall leaves. This area has some of the most amazing views I've ever seen. It can be a little scary to drive on, so be careful! It isn't for the faint of heart, but it's well worth it if you're a good driver (or if you know a good driver). Don't forget to take photos at the Switzerland of America lookout point.
Maroon Bells
The Maroon Bells is a classic Colorado spot located in Aspen. The iconic twin peaks are surrounded by stunning aspen trees that turn bright yellow in the fall season. This area offers plenty of hiking trails, including one at Crater Lake, where you can get a fantastic view of the Maroon Bells with their reflection on the lake.
Kebler Pass
Kebler Pass is a must-visit spot during the fall season. This scenic drive takes you through the largest aspen grove in Colorado, which means it's beaming with that vibrant color during autumn. We love aspens! Kebler Pass goes between Crested Butte (a top-tier mountain town) and Paonia.
The Crystal Mill
I love a good mill! Something about a mill feels particularly suited to the fall season. This could be because I have memories of hiking at one of my favorite places near Pittsburgh growing up, McConnell's Mill, during the autumn. The Crystal Mill is incredibly picturesque, with the mill, a waterfall, and the river aspens surrounded by aspens. I have yet to visit myself, but it's been added to the bucket list!
The Telluride Mountain Village Gondola
One of the many awesome things about Telluride is that the gondola is free to ride during the off-season, as it's used as public transportation. The gondola is a fantastic way to get those views of the fall colors. And who doesn't love a little gondola ride?
Rocky Mountain National Park
Rocky Mountain National Park has so much to explore, and it's an excellent spot for finding amazing fall foliage. Some options with beautiful autumn colors are Black Lake, Sandbeach Lake Trail, and Bierstadt Lake Trail.
Exploring Colorado's fall foliage is a can't-miss experience, offering a dazzling display of nature's artwork at every turn. From the towering peaks of the Maroon Bells to the enchanting journey along the Million Dollar Highway, each spot presents its unique charm and breathtaking scenery. Whether you're an avid photographer or love to immerse yourself in the beauty of the great outdoors, these destinations provide the perfect backdrop for unforgettable moments. As the autumn colors blanket the landscape, take the time to savor the tranquility and splendor of the season, creating memories that will last a lifetime. Your photos will pop on your feed, and they'll be an excellent reminder of an incredible journey.
