Colorado Newsline took home seven awards during a Society of Professional Journalists Colorado Pro Chapter reception at the Denver Press Club on Saturday.

The chapter’s 2024 Top of the Rockies journalism contest included more than 1,900 entries from more than 80 news outlets and 30 freelancers from Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming and Utah.

“The competition grows each year, and with that, we honor outstanding journalism throughout the four-state region,” contest coordinator Deb Hurley Brobst said in a statement. “It’s an honor to recognize the hard work of these journalists.”

Newsline, a nonprofit, nonpartisan outlet that launched in 2020 and is based in Denver, competed in the contest’s small newsroom category. The outlet operates with four full-time staff members. Each staff member, as well as two freelance journalists engaged by Newsline, won SPJ awards this year.
