The
Commanders are one of the surprise teams in the NFL this year. They entered Week 17 at 10-5 after winning just four games last year, needing just one win or tie to clinch a spot in the postseason. After defeating the
Eagles last week, Washington remained alive in NFC East title contention, but after Philadelphia's win earlier in the day, the Commanders had to settle for a playoff spot after a 30-24 OT victory over the
Falcons on Sunday night. Here's where it stands in the NFC playoff picture.
Commanders playoff picture
NFC East standings
Washington can no longer win the NFC East, but they are safely in the playoffs with an 11-5 record heading into a Week 18 matchup against Dallas. Washington can finish as either the No. 6 or No. 7 seed.
NFC wild-card standings
If Washington beats the Cowboys next week, it will be the No. 6 seed and play either the Rams or the Buccaneers. If both Washington and Green Bay lose next week, it will also be the No. 6 seed, but if Washington loses and Green Bay wins, the Commanders will tumble to the No. 7 seed and play the Eagles.
Commanders remaining schedule
Washington closes the season against a 7-9 Cowboys team that has won four of its past six games.
Commanders updated playoff chances
Washington has qualified for the 2024 NFL playoffs after beating Atlanta in Week 17.
