The San Antonio Spurs are expected to engage in trade talks this summer to add a win-now player alongside Victor Wembanyama , and they have already begun the process of inquiring about Kevin Durant . However, the Spurs have more trade assets than almost any team in the league, and the Phoenix Suns are well aware of the possible additions they could make if they were to trade with San Antonio. The Spurs, Houston Rockets , and Miami Heat have all reportedly sent offers to the Suns, which were quickly rejected as the Suns try to land the best package possible. Of course, Phoenix has its sights set on the second overall pick, which the Spurs are expected to use to draft Dylan Harper, and San Antonio has offered no indication that they are willing to part with that pick under any circumstances. "Rival teams attempting to engage in trade talks with the Spurs have come away with the impression it's unlikely they move down or off the pick at No. 2; it seems San Antonio is excited about the possibility of adding a talent of Harper's caliber and is willing to be patient, figuring out roster construction concerns later," reported ESPN's Jonathan Givony. While Harper's "fit" is questionable, his talent is undeniable, and the Spurs have clear hopes of surrounding Wembanyama with facilitators, ball-handlers, and outside scorers, similarly to how the 2010 Orlando Magic built around Dwight Howard. If the Spurs make a deal for Durant or another established star, the rights to Harper, as well as De'Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle, seem to be entirely off the table in negotiations.
