Standley Lake bald eagle drama continues, and it's the stuff of soap opera gold.
A high-flying bald eagle drama has been playing out over at Standley Lake Regional Park in Westminster—and we must admit, we can't stop watching it all unfold.
To put it simply, the drama-filled story starts with an expecting couple whose baby "bliss" was interrupted by an attacking intruder. There's confrontation, a heart-wrenching twist, and now, a potential new romance ... Are you hooked yet?
Lately, the father eagle and the "floater" eagle seem to be at more ease with one another, park officials report. He's tolerated her presence since the mother fled, however, as of late, he seems less alarmed by her presence. Park officials are no longer calling the new female eagle a “floater”, instead, giving her an official "name", F420.
While many viewers wait hopefully for mom’s return, the father eagle and F420 have become close, working on the nest together, sharing food, and even returning to the nest in the evenings together after spending time apart during the day.
Birds will be birds, and the two eventually began copulating, and have done so successfully after a few lackluster attempts. While it's unlikely that a new clutch of eggs will be laid, as it's extremely late in the season. Staff at the park will be observed closely over the next few days to see if eggs are laid.
We will be tuning in to see what happens as the season starts to change and life in the nest goes on.
If you want to see what unfolds, you can find updates on the park’s Facebook page or tune in to the live cam feed. The park says the best times to see activity are in the early morning and late afternoon, 6-8 a.m., and late afternoon, 4-6 p.m.
