Easter service is a virtual gathering due to COVID-19 concerns.

The traditional Red Rock's Easter Sunday sunrise service will once again go virtual this year. On Sunday, the Colorado Council of Churches announced the decision to stream the service for the second year in a row.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the council decided to hold off the in-person Easter service to avoid the large gathering that the event usually attracts. Instead, anyone who is looking forward to the service can watch it from the comfort of their home on Easter.

The video will be available to watch early morning on April 4. It can be viewed on the Colorado Council of Churches' official website, Facebook page, or Youtube channel beginning at 6 a.m. 

Bishop Kym Lucas of the Episcopal Church in Colorado will deliver the service. Other worship leaders will speak during the service, including Bishop Oliveto from Mountain Sky Conference, United Methodist Church, and Reverand Denise Pass from Presbytery of Plains and Peaks.

The service will include musical performances by Spirit of Grace and Stephani Garvey.

The Easter sunrise service has brought thousands of people together over the years to celebrate Resurrection Day. The Colorado Council of Churches has organized the event for 72 consecutive years. In past years, doors opened at 4:30 a.m. for the 6 a.m. service. The council reported 11,000 people attended the service in 2018.
