The Emporia High softball team split its final regular season doubleheader against Topeka West Friday at Peter Pan Park.

Emporia High won the first game, 12-6, before dropping the finale, 17-0, in five innings.

In game one, Emporia High led 3-0 through two innings before the Chargers scored four in the third. The Lady Spartans responded with five consecutive runs to regain the lead, 8-4, through four. Topeka West scored twice in the fifth, but the Lady Spartans responded with four in the sixth. Alivia Barrett got the win in the circle, allowing six runs on eight hits and seven strikeouts in a complete game effort. Atlyn Heffrom went 3-for-3 at the plate, while Barrett, Marley Sewell and Yzabel Ultreras each went 3-for-4 at the plate.

In game two, it was all Chargers jumping out to a 6-0 lead through three innings and scoring 11 runs over the final two innings. Emporia High was held to two hits in the game. Emporia High coach Tommy McClure said it was a tale of two games.

Emporia High will take a 10-16 record into regionals and will find out its assignment on Saturday.
