The winner will also receive a Rhino Barn tour and interaction with the animals!
Big news, animal lovers! Normally the Maryland Zoo holds a vote for the public to name their newest animals, like the adorable baby penguins named after gemstones or book characters. But for the two White Rhinos who recently arrived, they've introduced an exciting opportunity. As part of a fundraiser to support their care, a lucky winner will get to name one of the rhinos!
So how does it work?
All you need to do is make a donation totaling $100 to the Maryland Zoo, and from there you'll be entered into the contest. Multiple donations can be made, which means you'll receive multiple entries for a chance to win. The winner will be invited to a tour of the Rhino Barn to meet the staff and animals, as well as collaborate with the zoo in selecting a name. You'll even be allowed to bring three of your friends!
But there's one condition. Both parties will need to agree on a name before it goes forward, and you'll have before June 18 to make your choice. Past rhinos have been named Daisy and Stubby, so look to them for inspiration!
Fundraiser proceeds will support the care of the rhinos, and the zoo outlined the cost of each donation and where it goes in overall upkeep. According to their website, food costs $36 each day and medical exams total $500 per year. Considering the African Watering Hole houses over 100 additional animals, they need all the help they can get!
If it's always been your dream to name a zoo animal, you have until Tuesday, June 1, to enter. The contest ends at 11:59 p.m. (ET) on the dot, so set an alarm so you don't miss your chance! You can find out more here.
What name would you choose for the rhino? We'd love to hear your picks in the comments.
