Cream, ecru, ivory, bone, off-white, or any other shade remotely close to white is off-limits unless you're the bride.
Sigh. I don't know why this is still not a permanent fixture in the heads of members within western society, but in no way, shape, or form is a wedding guest to wear white unless the couple requests it.
And while we may not be able to host or attend a big, beautiful wedding just yet, this is something we all need to remember once the world gets turned right way up.
If you think your attire is too close to white, don't wear it. I don't care how good you look in it, you only succeed in appearing like a vulgar narcissist at a day that's not about you.
Don't wear a white outfit with a jacket or sweater of a different color. The jacket won't cover your sin.
If you don't have anything else to wear, and you can't afford anything new, go to the Goodwill and get something appropriate for just a few dollars. If you don't have a Goodwill near you, go to the grocery store, grab some Rit All-Purpose Dye off the shelf, and spend an afternoon turning your outfit black, blue, or purple.
Or, borrow an outfit from a friend or a nice co-worker.
Worst case scenario, don't go to the wedding.
If you happen to show up at a wedding wearing white, don't be shocked if you receive some serious side-eye or attitude.
The couple spent thousands on this one event, the least you can do is be a gracious guest and wear any color of the mother-loving rainbow other than white.
