A s in the rest of the nation, in Florida , the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) , known as Food Stamps , is a vital support for all residents of the Sunshine State . The SNAP benefits is a program that supports more than 42 million low-income citizens who receive this food support benefit throughout the United States. In Florida , eligible people receive this benefit every month for this section of the population residing within the United States. The entity in charge of administering SNAP benefits is the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) , which does so through the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) , although it should be remembered that each state is responsible for the distribution of benefits in each of the states. In Florida, the Department of Children and Families (DCF) oversees the program and ensures that eligible residents receive their SNAP benefits throughout the 12 months of the year. Eligible individuals receive an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card, which works like a debit card. Benefits are loaded onto the EBT card month by month, and the amount delivered can be used to purchase a variety of nutritious foods, which fall within an essential list that includes proteins, cereals, fruits and vegetables, helping low-income families to maintain a balanced diet and avoid health problems related to poor nutrition. However, there are some limitations, as SNAP cannot be used to purchase hot or prepared foods, alcohol, tobacco or non-food items such as gasoline and household products. Violation of these guidelines may be sanctioned, including suspension of benefits.
