Arizona State guard Joson Sanon has announced his decision to transfer to St. John's University, uniting with head coach Rick Pitino. Sanon, a 6-foot-5 freshman from Fall River, Massachusetts, averaged 11.9 points and 3.4 rebounds per game during the 2024-25 season. Sanon began his collegiate career at Arizona State University after a standout tenure at Vermont Academy, where he was recognized as a five-star prospect. His freshman season with the Sun Devils showcased his scoring ability, particularly during the opening month, where he averaged 15.9 points per game, and in the final five games, where he increased his output to 18.8 points per game. Despite his individual success, Arizona State finished the season with a 13-19 record, including a 4-16 mark in Big 12 conference play. Sanon's decision to transfer comes as he seeks new opportunities to further develop and contribute to a competitive program. St. John's, under the leadership of Coach Pitino, recently secured both the Big East regular season and tournament titles, earning a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Sanon expressed enthusiasm about joining St. John's and playing under Pitino. "Coach Pitino believes in me and my potential and what he can do for me," Sanon told ESPN . Sanon's arrival is expected to bolster the team's backcourt depth and provide a versatile scoring option. His ability to play multiple positions and his proficiency from beyond the arc—shooting 36.9% from three-point range—align with St. John's needs. His addition to the Red Storm roster is anticipated to make an immediate impact as the team aims to build upon its recent successes and pursue further accolades in the upcoming season.
