DENVER | The Regis Jesuit girls tennis team exited the Class 5A team state tournament in the quarterfinal round, but the entire team gets a chance for individual success at the upcoming 5A individual state tournament.

After the second day of 5A Region 7 player concluded at Colorado Athletic Club Monaco, coach Jennifer Armstrong’s host Raiders won all four doubles regional titles and got another from sophomore No. 3 singles player Otylia Martino.

Junior No. 1 singles player Rebecca Gelfer and senior No. 2 singles player Mary Clare Watts also earned spots in the May 9-11 5A individual state tournament at City Park in Denver.

Leading the way in the doubles sweep was the No. 1 team of seniors Lucy Filippini and Brenna Radebaugh, who posted a 6-2, 6-0 finals victory against a team from Loveland to punch their ticket. Both were state qualifiers a year ago as well, but Filippini played No. 3 singles and Radebaugh was at No. 2 doubles.

Juniors Ebba Svard and Cait Carolan also were state qualifiers in 2023 with different doubles partners (Svard at No. 2, Carolan at No. 4) and gained entry together at No. 2 doubles this season with a 6-3, 7-5 defeat of a team from Loveland.

Senior Torri Loftus and junior Lily Beebe teamed for a state-qualifying berth at No. 3 doubles as they also defeated Loveland, while the No. 4 doubles team of senior Elise Holt (another 2023 state qualifier) and sophomore Helen Adams dispatched a team from Pine Creek to win the championship match.

Gelfer earned her first trip to state as she finished as the No. 1 singles runner-up, while Watts rebounded from a semifinal loss to win her third place match as well as a playback to advance to state.
