Share your story of heartbreak and have a chance to win a night in the luxury Elizabeth Hotel!

Valentine’s Day is one of those holidays people love or hate, and we have all heard the horror stories of breakups, blind dates, bad dates, and romantic surprises gone wrong on this day of love. Those who hate the holiday will enjoy this because the Elizabeth Hotel in Fort Collins is holding a contest for the best/worst breakup stories.

If your heart has ever been broken by “stupid cupid” ... If an ex stole your heart and stomped it ... If you left as “are better as friends” (but your torch secretly burns bright) ... well, then the Anti Valentine’s Day Heartbreak Hotel Contest is for you.

The contest just opened and will take entries through Wednesday, February 12. Those wanting to enter should share their story of heartbreak and breakup, good or bad, with the staff at the Elizabeth Hotel, The Sunset Lounge, The Emporium Kitchen & Wine Market, and Magic Rat Live Music, either in person or through social media direct message.

Then, on February 13, The Elizabeth Hotel will host an Anti-Valentine’s Day Wine & Whine event to read all the tragic takes submitted and serve complimentary wine to guests. At the end of the night, a winner will be selected at random and win dinner and an overnight stay at the hotel.

This event could draw quite the crowd as love often leaves many sad and alone, or thinking of that lost love on Valentine’s Day, and of course, free wine has its appeal (wink, wink). We wouldn’t mind spending a free night here either, certainly might soften the blow of heartbreak.

The Elizabeth Hotel is a luxury hotel and event center in Old Town Fort Collins, set at the base of the inspiring Rocky Mountains. With gourmet dining options, pet-friendly accommodations, an Instrument Lending Library, in-room record players, a rooftop lounge, and amazing views, it's a mix of old and new and offers more than the ordinary lodging experience.

We love the idea of this contest—and not just because of the free wine and prize. As they say, misery loves company, and sometimes, just getting it off your chest can help overcome sadness and frustration over a lost love. Sharing that story and connecting with others opens new doors and possibilities, and perhaps, a new love or friendship.

There's also a contest, NOCO Style Sweetheart Sweepstakes, which will give one lucky winner a stay in a luxury suite at the Elizabeth Hotel, dinner, and a private in-suite instrumental concert. The prize package also includes a half-hour portrait session with a professional photographer and includes second and third place prizes. While the submission window is now closed, it required applicants to submit a photo of themselves and their sweetie. Voting will happen February 9-13, with winners getting picked on Valentine’s Day.
