Bandstand | March 3–8
This new musical, from the creative mind of Tony award-winning Andy Blankenbuehler (the choreographer from Hamilton), dazzles audiences young and old. Taking place after World War II, Bandstand follows the lives of several servicemen as they return from the war. After the excitement of the end of the war subsides, they are still left with uncertainty about their future—until NBC announces a musical contest and the servicemen are back together again to try to create a new life for themselves. An exploration of the positivity of a can-do attitude, this Broadway production already has a reputation for moving its audiences. Now it's time to experience it for yourself!
The Last Ship | March 27–April 5
Sting fans rejoice as this new musical comes to the National Theatre. Set in a community in England that is on the brink of losing it all as the shipyard closes down, The Last Ship focuses on the life of a sailor who has just returned from nearly two decades at sea. Featuring some of Sting's best-known songs, as well as a whole score created by Sting himself, the music will delight all of his fans. But if that isn't enough, Sting himself plays the role of Jackie White, the shipyard foreman. Come see this iconic multifaceted performer and the stunning ensemble of talented singers and dancers as they highlight the struggle of this community.
Located at 1321 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, the National Theatre is accessible by Metro. You can ride the blue, orange, silver, or red line to Metro Center or the blue, orange, and silver line to Federal Triangle. There are also plenty of restaurants and happy hours to check out in the area, as well!
