Baseball



Eaton 5, Platte Valley 4, in Eaton: Platte Valley fell just inches short of a monumental upset, as Eaton remained unbeaten on the season. The Reds led 3-0 early before the Broncos chipped away. Platte Valley trimmed the gap to 3-2 with two runs in the top of the fifth. Then, the Broncos scored two more runs in the top of the seventh to trim the gap to 5-4 but couldn’t overtake the lead. Junior Cooper Nider, senior Joey Blaskowski and junior Cash Rinker each had an RBI for Eaton. Junior Hudson Flummerfelt led Platte Valley, hitting 2 for 4 with one RBI and a run. The Reds improved to 18-0 overall, 11-0 in Class 3A Patriot League play. The Broncos fell to 10-9, 4-6.

Roosevelt 7, Northridge 1, in Greeley: Roosevelt kept rolling, extending its win streak to nine games and completing a two-game sweep of league foe, Northridge. The Rough Riders led just 1-0 before blowing open the game with a six-run top of the fifth inning. Roosevelt freshman Jack Sansone and senior Seppe Salvatore each had one hit, one run and two RBI to lead a balanced Rough Riders team. Sophomore Israel Castillo went 2 for 4 with one RBI and one run. Castillo also pitched six of seven innings for Roosevelt, allowing one unearned run on one hit, striking out nine and walking four. Senior Lincoln Lyons had Northridge’s only hit. The Rough Riders improved to 11-7 overall, 9-5 in 4A Longs Peak play. The Grizzlies fell to 5-12, 4-8.

University 5, Valley 1, in Greeley: University bounced back nicely from a tough loss the day before against powerhouse rival Eaton. Sophomore Joel Ramirez had a big day at the plate for the Bulldogs, racking up three RBI on 2-for-2 hitting. Senior Connor Weber went 3 for 4 with one run and one RBI. Sophomore Seth Kissler led a balanced Valley offense, hitting 1 for 3 with one RBI. University improved to 17-3 overall, 9-2 in 3A Patriot League play. The Vikings fell to 9-9, 4-6.

Highland 8, Weld Central 1, in Ault: Highland scored all of its runs in two innings — three runs in the fourth and five runs in the fifth — to secure this league win. Sophomore Stetson Hendren led the Huskies, hitting 2 for 4 with two runs, two RBI, a double and a triple. Junior John Bingley was impressive on the mound for Highland. He pitched all seven innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits, striking out 12 and walking three. Freshman Luke Witzel drove in Weld Central’s only run on 1-for-3 hitting. The Huskies improved to 10-10 overall, 3-8 in 3A Patriot League play. The Rebels fell to 6-13, 0-10.

Severance 6, Skyline 5, in Severance: Severance secured this nail-biter to earn a two-game league sweep of Skyline. Sophomore Braeden Kerksiek led the way, hitting 2 for 3 with three RBI and a run. Junior Dom Rice and senior Brennan Taylor also had two hits apiece. The Silver Knights improved to 12-6 overall, 8-5 in 4A Longs Peak play.

Girls golf



Northridge places third, in Fort Lupton: Northridge’s fine season continued, as the Grizzlies scored a three-golfer total of 252 to place third out of 27 teams during the Frederick Golden Eagle Open at Coyote Creek Golf Course. Windsor tied for fourth (256). Severance tied for seventh (283). Roosevelt was 13th (320). Holy Family shot a 241 to take home the team title.

Sophomore Grace Gerbers shot a 78 to lead Northridge and place third, individually. She was joined on the team by junior Emmarie Miles (89, 20th), sophomore Jade Hepler (87, 14th), junior Leila Thompson (87, 14th) and sophomore Madison Nation (106, 50th).

Senior Allison Sanger placed sixth (81) to lead Windsor. Also golfing for the Wizards were junior Macy Kleve (83, 8th), senior Alexandra Strohman (92, 27th), freshman McKenna Hersh (101, 39th) and junior Samantha Wilcox (97, 32nd).

Representing Severance were junior Sophie Morgan (95, 28th), junior Katelyn Johnson (90, 22nd), junior Reagan Mendoza (120, 75th), senior Isabella Baessler (98, 33rd) and freshman Jaycee Runner (100, 37th).

Suiting up for Roosevelt were junior Bailey Haines (103, 42nd), senior Nayeli Urias (106, 50th), sophomore Shaylee Ramirez (117, 70th), junior Grace Sterkel (122, 78th) and senior Brooklynn Harkness (111, 59th).

Brighton junior Raleigh Puzio shot a 75 to take home individual medalist honors.

Boys lacrosse



Resurrection Christian 16, Middle Park 5, in Loveland: Resurrection Christian put forth a consistent attack, outscoring Middle Park in each quarter. The Cougars improved to 9-6 overall, 3-2 in 4A Northern Conference play.

Girls soccer



Windsor 5, Skyline 2, in Longmont: Windsor won its ninth consecutive match and moved to 11-3-1 overall, 6-0 in 5A/4A/3A Northern Colorado Athletic Conference play. The Wizards scored three goals in the first half and two more in the second.

Frederick 5, Roosevelt 0, in Johnstown: Roosevelt wrapped up its season with a fourth consecutive loss. The Rough Riders fell to 1-13-1 overall, 0-8-1 in 4A/3A Longs Peak play. Frederick scored four goals in the first half and one more in the second.

Mead 9, Severance 0, in Severance: Severance couldn’t get its offense off the ground in this nonleague loss. Mead scored four goals in the first half and five more in the second. The Silver Knights fell to 3-9-2 overall.

SkyView Academy 4, Windsor Charter 2, in Highlands Ranch: Windsor Charter couldn’t quite keep up with SkyView Academy in this nonleague match. The Firebirds fell to 6-6-1 overall.

Arrupe Jesuit 2, Fort Lupton 0, in Denver: Fort Lupton suffered its third consecutive loss and fell to 4-10 overall, 4-5 in 3A/2A Frontier League play. Arrupe Jesuit scored a goal in each half.

Peak to Peak 3, Valley 0, in Lafayette: Valley wrapped up its season with a nonleague road loss to fall to 3-9-2 overall. Peak to Peak scored all three of its goals in the second half.

Gilpin County 9, Union Colony 1, in Greeley: Union Colony got its sole goal in the second half, but it could never make a dent in a 5-0 halftime deficit. The Timberwolves fell to 1-12 overall, 0-8 in 2A Metro Hills West play.

Girls tennis



Greeley West places fourth, in Denver: Greeley West scored five points to place fourth out of six teams during the 5A Region 7 tournament at the Colorado Athletic Club-Monaco. Regis Jesuit won the tournament with 12 points. Among the highlights, the Spartans recorded a runner-up finish at No. 3 singles.
