Like Madonna or David Bowie, icons often reinvent themselves to stay fresh. One such reinvention is happening now at a legendary Valley tourism landmark: Hotel Valley Ho, a midcentury hotel in Old Town Scottsdale. The property is spending $18 million on a major refresh of its guest rooms with a new look they hope will blend the classic with the current, while also adding contemporary amenities like smart lighting and temperature control.
Hotel Valley Ho's website described it as "our biggest room renovation ever." "Our approach was to respect the history of the hotel while infusing it with a fresh, modern perspective that embraces the needs of travelers today and the Old Town Scottsdale lifestyle, all while remaining as iconic as when our doors first opened," Ronen Aviram, Hotel Valley Ho's Vice President and General Manager, said in a statement.

The renovated guest rooms fuse vintage aesthetic with modern design. One example of this, according to Valley Ho staff, is the long, low, horizontal wood and upholstery headboards inspired by photographs of the hotel guest rooms from the 1960s. Custom artwork from Scottsdale artist Djamila Fierek is displayed on the walls. The design also includes ceramic wall planters, new window sheers with a custom-designed fabric featuring geometric hummingbird patterns, walnut wood open closets and terrazzo countertops, further blending vintage charm with modern sophistication. Walls throughout the rooms are cream-colored with pops of greenery and dark tones. The interior design also incorporates shades of pink and blue, taking inspiration from
Arizona's sunsets . The new rooms have more lighting and vanity space in the bathrooms, as well as a high-tech Lutron system for personalizing lighting and temperature, hotel spokeswoman Kianna Pitegoff said. Also new with the renovation are cabana rooms, located on the ground level facing the pools. These rooms will feature extended patios with sun loungers, tables and chairs, she said. Renovations to rooms in the hotel's original wings are completed and open for booking now, Pitegoff said. Two wings still have the hotel's previous design; rooms in these wings, including the executive suites, will be renovated over the summer.
