SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — A Scottsdale hospital security guard is recovering after being shot by a patient Sunday. New details about the incident have recently come to light.

Scottsdale Police Department identified the suspect as Maximillian Yanofsky, 30, who lives in Mesa.

According to arrest documents obtained Monday, the security guard was shot in the shoulder during a confrontation with Yanofsky inside HonorHealth Scottsdale Shea Medical Center.

Those arrest documents claim investigators spoke with Yanofsky's cousin who wasn't identified in the documents. They reportedly told police that Yanofsky asked to stay with them after getting into a fight with his dad. The cousin allegedly told investigators that Yanofsky was exhibiting paranoid behavior including "hallucinations" and "hearing voices". On Sunday, the cousin said they brought Yanofsky to Shea hospital to be evaluated.

Once Yanofsky was admitted, the document claims he became paranoid and argumentative. It lead to Yanofsky barricading himself in one of the bathrooms arrest records said. At that point, hospital security was called in to assist. When they got inside the bathroom the 30-year-old patient reportedly charged at them with a handgun.

In the emergency room surrounded by other patients and staff, Yanofsky reportedly pointed the gun at two security guards. It then led to three of them attempting to disarm the suspect and during that process the gun was fired, hitting one of the security guards in the shoulder.

The document then said hospital staff and members of the police department stepped in to detain Yanofsky. He was booked into jail on suspicion of endangerment, aggravated assault using a deadly weapon and other serious felonies.

During his initial appearance prosecutors said they were concerned with the suspect's mental health status and said he is a significant danger to the community. The judge gave Yanofsky a $250,000 cash only bond.

The document claims the security guard who was shot was taken to another Scottsdale hospital and is expected to survive. However, it's not clear if the security guard will have any long-term disabilities from the incident.
