A woman died and two people were injured in a late-morning, two-vehicle crash May 13 in a construction zone on Interstate 70 just south of Maple Hill and about 12 miles west of Topeka, authorities said.

Kimberly J. Terhune, 64, of Maple Hill, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Kansas Highway Patrol said in an accident report posted on its website.

Injured were Mark E. Robb, 73, and Judith A. Robb, 75, of Manhattan, the report said.

Both were taken to a Topeka hospital, Judith Robb with injuries that were thought to be serious and Mark Robb with injuries that were thought to be minor, it said.

Here’s how the crash occurred

The crash occurred about 11:15 a.m. as Terhune was driving an SUV eastbound on I-70, the report said.

It indicated her vehicle left the highway on its south side for an unknown reason, crossed the median, entered westbound I-70 and collided with a westbound pickup truck driven by Mark Robb, who had Judith Robb as his passenger.

The Robbs were wearing their seat belts while Terhune was not, the report said.

Crash temporarily blocked off both eastbound lanes of I-70

The crash temporarily blocked off both lanes of eastbound traffic and one lane of westbound traffic in the area involved, the Kansas Department of Transportation said on its Facebook site for northeast Kansas.

I-70 was reopened to eastbound traffic about 2 p.m., KDOT said.
