SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Transportation was the topic of a quarterly meeting Thursday afternoon as local authorities got together to update each other on several projects going on around town. The Iowa DOT gave an update on the Gordon Drive viaduct repair and replacement projects. That included the next steps in the project to replace the viaduct, currently slated for 2028, as well as the plans for maintaining the current viaduct until then. “By Thanksgiving, we will have one lane of traffic open in each direction, it will no longer be what’s called ‘head-to-head’; one westbound lane on the westbound and one eastbound lane on the eastbound,” said Iowa DOT’s District 3 Engineer Jessica Felix. “That’s the condition that the traveling public is going to see until the replacement of the Gordon Drive viaduct, which will begin in late 2027, early 2028.” Felix said the Iowa DOT is nearing the end of the environmental and design phases for the new viaduct and plans to host a public hearing for the design in February.
