Iowa State basketball frontcourt reinforcements are on the way through the transfer portal.

Just days after securing a commitment from Oskaloosa native and Purdue-Fort Wayne forward Eric Mulder , the Cyclone men got another big man through the transfer portal in Blake Buchanan. He announced his decision on Sunday via social media.

Buchanan, a native of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho, spent the last two seasons at Virginia. The 6-foot-11 forward joins the Cyclones with two years of eligibility remaining.

He appeared in 66 games, including 28 starts, over the last two seasons with the Cavaliers .

This past season, he played in 32 games and made 22 starts, averaging 5.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.1 blocks per game. Primarily an interior player, he shot 53.4% inside the arc and 54.1% from the free-throw line.

A solid rebounder and rim protector, Buchanan ranked in the top 12 for both offensive and defensive rebounding rate among all ACC players, according to KenPom. He also had the sixth-highest blocking rate in the conference this past season.

Buchanan is the third commitment through the transfer portal for the Cyclones. Iowa State first landed Mulder, its first frontcourt addition, followed by Eastern Washington transfer Mason Williams, a scoring guard who committed on Friday morning.

Iowa State has been working to replenish its frontcourt. All-Big 12 forward Joshua Jefferson is expected to return, but the Cyclones lost Brandton Chatfield to graduation and Dishon Jackson, J.T. Rock and versatile forwards Demarion Watson and Kayden Fish to the transfer portal.

The Cyclones are also bringing in a four-player high school recruiting class that includes 6-foot-9 forward Dominykas Pleta and 6-foot-6 forward/wing Xzavion Mitchell.
