VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — If you live anywhere near a hurricane zone, you know his name.

Reports of The Weather Channel's Jim Cantore making a trip to Virginia Beach made one thing apparent: This storm is going to be significant.

"This will easily be the biggest storm of the season here Wednesday," Cantore tweeted.

Cantore joined Meteorologist Craig Moeller during The Weather Desk on Wednesday morning. Hampton Roads is set to see up to 6-10 inches of snow. Moderate to heavy snow will develop Wednesday afternoon with snowfall rates of 1-2 inches per hour at times by the evening.

Cantore said he hadn't reported from Virginia Beach since 2017. At that time, the region was expecting 5-7 inches of snow.

Standing in front of the Neptune statue at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, Cantore noted how rare it is for Virginia Beach to see double-digit snow predictions. Mixing rain and sleet generally prevents significant snow accumulation in the region.

He joined the 6 p.m. newscast as well, touching on what people should expect when it comes to road conditions later on into the night.
