We could find out Monday which businesses in northern Kentucky will be able to sell medical marijuana in the new year. The state is holding a license lottery ahead of the bog rollout of its cannabis program. Last month, a lottery was held to decide who can grow and make products that will be sold in dispensaries. Growers in Grant and Bracken counties were among the lottery winners. Monday's lottery is focused on which businesses can sell medical marijuana. Four licenses will be given out across northern Kentucky, and only one license will be given per county. The state's Office of Medical Cannabis has recorded nearly 400 applications for those licenses in northern Kentucky, alone. Experts say the goal is to have a dispensary within an hour of anywhere in the state. The dispensaries that do get approval Monday will still have to go through several more steps before they can start selling. Monday's lottery begins at 2 p.m. and will be streamed on the Office of Medical Cannabis' YouTube page . The state will start accepting applications for a medical marijuana card on Jan. 1. In order to receive a card , a patient must be diagnosed with a specific medical condition, have no felony convictions and be a resident of Kentucky.
