WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) - The two lakes that provide drinking water for the Wichita Falls metropolitan area are nearly at 100% combined capacity according to the latest information from Water Data for Texas. Lake Kickapoo has been at 100% capacity for several days. Lake Arrowhead has crept closer to its capacity mark, currently sitting at 96.6%. Arrowhead’s total capacity is more than two and a half times that of Kickapoo. Heavy rains did most of the heavy lifting of filling the lakes during the area’s wettest April on record, bolstering levels from the mid-60s to near-overflowing while also raising local flooding concerns. A couple rounds of recent storms provided the boost needed to fill Kickapoo to the brim. With more storms possible throughout the week, Arrowhead could be close behind.
