On Saturday, November 11, local Denver musicians will be hosting a benefit concert for SafeHouse Denver, Inc. to bring awareness to domestic and sexual violence.

October may have marked Domestic Violence Awareness Month, but that doesn't mean the conversation ends. Domestic violence is not an easy subject to talk about, but it's a necessary one. Which is why on November 11, local musicians like Mawule, YaSi, DJ Zenas, and Kayla Marque will band together to host a fundraiser concert to bring awareness and to benefit SafeHouse Denver, Inc.

SafeHouse Denver, Inc. is an agency that helps adults and children with both emergency shelter and non-residential counseling from domestic violence situations. They want to help those affected to "reclaim their right to a life free of domestic violence."

The fundraiser is for those 21 and older, and the cover charge is $7 at the door. You can also purchase bundles and VIP tickets online. It will be held at Syntax Physic Opera -- 554 S. Broadway, Denver. Doors open at 8 p.m.

Mawule, Kayla, and YaSi talked to 303 Magazine about the benefit concert:

Mawule said, in regards to his past of dealing with abuse in different forms,

... but, I myself am a survivor. Working in higher education for the past six years, domestic and sexual violence is something we deal with almost on a weekly basis ... To me, it's something that hits home, because it's something I see my students dealing with a lot, and as a result, I, in essence, become a secondary survivor of their stories."

Kayla Marque talked about her responsibility,

As an artist I believe I have a responsibility to the community -- to empower them, support them, and bring awareness to issues through my craft ..."

YaSi said about the #MeToo movement,

The #MeToo movement is great but also really sad seeing how many women, and men for that matter, have faced sexual assault in their lives. I have unfortunately been in a #MeToo situation, maybe not as extreme, but a situation nonetheless ..."
