An altercation in line at the Orlando Union Rescue Mission escalated into gunfire on Friday, resulting in one man being shot and another taken into custody. The conflict occurred around 1:30 p.m. yesterday as two men were waiting to enter the shelter. According to the mission's statement, the disagreement turned violent when one of the individuals retrieved a gun from his vehicle and fired at the other. The injured party sought refuge in a clinic within the shelter premises before being transported by the Orlando Fire Department to the Orlando Regional Medical Center. The mission, which has never witnessed such a shooting in its 77-year existence, characterized the event as "a unique anomaly." The shooter was arrested, and the Orlando Police Department confirms he now faces charges of attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. "All parties have been identified, and there is no threat to the community," the department assured in a statement detailed by ClickOrlando . The mission's director, Karen Kestner, detailed that the victim, who was immediately attended to, is expected to make a full recovery. She refrained from releasing the names of either individual involved in the shooting. Kestner, in her commitment to transparency, shared that "The shooting is a unique anomaly - it is the only shooting at the Mission in its seventy-seven-year history," as reported in a statement to WFTV . No further details regarding the motive or the circumstances leading up to the shooting have been released as the investigation continues.
