Manhattan High wrestling stole the show in Topeka this weekend as each team won the Centennial League title, earning the coaching staff 2025 Centennial League Coaches of the Year honors.

The Manhattan boys, who entered the league championship ranked No. 3 in Kansas 6A, redeemed a second-place finish at last year’s championship by defeating Washburn Rural 46-23.

The Junior Blues, who won the league last year, were the Indians’ toughest task as they cruised past the rest of the field, defeating Junction City 75-6, Emporia 63-15 and host Topeka High 68-12.

Leading the way for the boys’ domination was a barrage of undefeated finishers as seven individuals had a 4-0 Saturday. Star junior Caeleb Hutchinson, who’s ranked No. 1 at 132 pounds, went 4-0 with two pins, carding falls of 1:28 and 1:47.

Joining him with perfect performances were Franke Force (106), Jack Hutchinson (113), Cameron Coonrod (126), Max Evans-Pryor (175), Landon Dobson (215) and Garrison Vikander (285), whose four wins all came on pins, including one of 0:26.

Five more Indians suffered just one blemish between Benjamin Busch (120), Brecken Crist-Funk (144), Logan Lagerman (150), Liam Nider (165) and Ben Uher (190).

The Manhattan girls, who entered ranked No. 5 in 6A, handled business as well. They took down Junction City 39-27, Emporia 46-24 and Topeka High 65-6. Against Rural, Manhattan came away with a 42-38 win, cementing the league title after a third-place finish last year.

Five different individuals put together a 4-0 tally at Topeka, starting with Eva Lucios (105) and Alexis Haeusler (110) who did so with four pins. Evelyn Thornburg (125), Alayna Slifer (135) and Sophia Hoeme (145) rounded out the 4-0 performers for Manhattan.

Those who went 3-1 were Blanca-Elizabeth Flores-Klemick (100), Eva Lucios (105), Tierra Young (140), Sophia Hoeme (145) and Erica Li (170).

The Manhattan girls will be back in action on Friday and Saturday for regionals. Looking to further their journey to repeat as state champions, the boys’ regionals are the following weekend, on Feb. 21-22.
