Coach Turner, a respected leader in high school basketball, brings a wealth of experience, a history of success, and a deep commitment to player development and academic excellence.
Coach Turner joins Montverde Academy after a distinguished tenure as the head coach at Gonzaga College High School in Washington, D.C., where he built one of the most successful programs in the country. Under his leadership, Gonzaga secured multiple conference championships, produced top-tier collegiate and professional talent, and consistently demonstrated a culture of integrity and excellence on and off the court. His coaching résumé also includes involvement with USA Basketball, where he has contributed to the development of elite young athletes competing on the national and international stage. Over his 21-year tenure as head coach at Gonzaga, he has achieved an impressive record of 497 wins and 176 losses. Coach Turner’s success has led him to numerous coach of the year titles, including DCSAA Coach of the Year (2020 and 2025); WCAC Coach of the Year in 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2017, and 2025; DC Basketball Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 2025; Capital Classic DMV Coach of the Year in 2017; National Gatorade Coach of the Year in 2016; USA Today ALL-USA District of Columbia Coach of the Year in 2017 and 2019; Washington Post ALL-MET Coach of the Year in 2019; Washington Post District of Columbia Coach of the Year in 2008; and DC Sports Fan Coach of the Year in 2008.
