Get ready for a whirlwind adventure in Frozen 2.

Six years ago, Frozen became a worldwide phenomenon that captured the hearts of grownups and kiddos alike with its all-too-catchy tunes, loveable characters, and powerful message. It took the world by storm, quite literally. So when it was announced that a sequel was on the way, it seemed nearly impossible to replicate or even top the charm of the original.

But, Frozen 2 manages to defy expectations and proves itself as a worthy successor.

Set three years after the events of the first movie, Frozen 2 finds Elsa (Idina Menzel) and Anna (Kristen Bell) continuing to rule over the kingdom of Arendelle, closer than ever. The pair of sisters, along with Kristoff (Jonathan Groff), Olaf (Josh Gad), and Sven, journey "Into the Unknown" as truths as about their past come to light and they learn that not everything is what it seems. 

It is important to note that the movie does have more mature, slightly dark themes that may be too heavy at times, especially for younger kiddos, but they're mixed in with some lighthearted moments, courtesy of everyone's favorite talking snowman.

The movie's biggest downfall, however, is that of its plotline.

The plot picks up rather quickly, and the audience is whisked away on a fast-moving adventure that doesn't really allow for time to breathe, or even process what's happening before moving on to another subplot. Had the runtime been stretched a bit longer than its hour and 45 minutes, or if the subplots were a little more controlled and cut down, it would've greatly impacted the overall tone of the movie, for the better. But it's a kids' movie, and a longer runtime might have seen little ones' eyes glazing over.

Luckily, in between the fast-paced storyline, we had some songs thrown in to balance it out. Now, everyone knows that the music of Frozen is insanely catchy (I can't be the only one who feels this uncontrollable surge of energy when I hear "Let It Go"!), but I'd dare say that the Frozen 2 soundtrack is even better and even catchier. It reminds me of a full-on Broadway musical, and I've gotta say, I absolutely love it! Once again composed by husband-wife duo Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, the film features seven new songs, along with a brief reprise of "Reindeer(s) Are Better Than People" from the original.

Overall, Frozen 2 is a must-see if you're a fan of the 2013 movie and gives audiences a more in-depth look at the relationship of our favorite pair of sisters while simultaneously allowing them to flourish on their own.
