The National Weather Service is warning Illinois residents about
flood threats throughout the rest of the week as storms continue to roll through the region. Here's what to know.
Flood threat in central Illinois
The NWS warns of an
increasing flood threat in central and southern Illinois through Saturday, with the heaviest rainfall expected Friday evening through Saturday evening. The service warns of an increased flood threat in fields, roads and low-lying areas with poor drainage, as well as significant river level rises. The most concentrated flood threat is expected to be near and south of I-70, with additional rainfall amounts of 4 to 6 inches likely in the area. Friday is also expected to bring isolated hail up to a quarter size and
gusts up to 60 mph .
Chicago flood threat
Heavy rainfall is expected Friday night in Chicago, which may lead to localized flooding near and south of I-80. The NWS warns that areas with the heaviest rainfall could shift further North as Friday nears.
